Part-time temporary prenatal genetic counselor


We are looking for a Genetic Counselor to join our team in our Pomona, West Covina and Monterey Park offices. Our practice is a California Prenatal Screening Program approved Prenatal Diagnosis Center satellite, providing preconception and prenatal counseling, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, ultrasound exams, fetal echocardiograms, and ongoing prenatal care for women carrying high risk pregnancies.


Genetic Counselor responsibilities include reviewing patient medical history and related records, relevant clinical and laboratory information, and completing appropriate documentation. Ultimately, the candidate will work directly with patients to help individuals and family members understand the risk associated with various genetic diseases and determine if they choose to undergo additional testing. The counselor would develop and present educational and related programs as appropriate.


Responsibilities:

· Review documents in patients charts and develop follow-up recommendations for patients

· Develop and present educational and related programs as appropriate

Requirements and Skills:

· Proven work experience as a Genetic Counselor or similar role. New graduates are encouraged to apply.

· Ability to apply counseling methods and techniques

· Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses, and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client

· Knowledge of human genetic disorders and birth defects

· Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information

· Ability to counsel patients and/or families in life management and coping skills

· Relevant training and/or certifications as a Genetic Counselor

· Professionalism and emotional stability to handle difficult cases while providing families with proper care instructions and support recommendations



Education:

· Master’s degree in genetic counseling required or an equivalent discipline from an accredited institution and in good standing with the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)

· Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) preferred in OBGYN
