Genetic counselors typically practice as part of a health care team, primarily in prenatal, pediatric and oncology settings. Many genetic counselors work in industry, such as laboratories that offer genetic testing services. Other genetic counselors work in public health settings educating the public about screening and prevention options for certain birth defects and genetic conditions.
