About Us

History

The Southern California genetic counselors group had an inaugural meeting in December of 2016. In the Spring of 2017, we held our first business meeting, educational talk and started planning for our first annual education conference which was held in May 2018. At that time, it was decided by the founding members that the group needed official non-profit, tax-exempt status to provide an organization that would perpetuate the mission and the goals of Southern California genetic counselors. The Southern California Genetic Counselors (SCGC) incorporated as a non-profit 501c3, tax-exempt organization in February 2019.

Mission Statement

The mission of the SCGC is to advocate for the genetic counseling profession and genetic counseling services in Southern California by expanding awareness of the profession, promoting genetic education, increasing patient access to genetic services, and providing genetic resources.
