USC Norris Cancer Genetic Counseling Job

A cancer genetic counselor position at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is opening. This position is a unique opportunity to work in an academic setting as part of a growing team of other genetic counselors, physicians, and researchers at a NCI-designated cancer center.
The clinical genetic counseling responsibilities of this position include the full spectrum of clinical cancer genetic counseling activities including collecting family history, formulating the differential diagnosis, educating patients about genetics and the implications of genetic testing, coordinating genetic testing, interpreting genetic test results and cancer risk assessment. The genetic counselor is expected to communicate genetic test results to patients and providers, coordinate cascade testing when needed and help take care of patients and their families with hereditary cancer.
As an integral part of the research team, the genetic counselor will formulate and support research activities related to the fields of genetic counseling, cancer genetics and genomics and precision oncology. The genetic counselor will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of research including project formulation, grant submission, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. The genetic counselor will have the opportunity to submit journal publications and present data at national meetings.
As part of an academic institution, the genetic counselor will be involved with educating and mentoring trainees including genetic counseling students, pre-genetic counseling students, residents, and fellows and will serve as an instructor for practicing staff and physicians.

Minimum Qualifications: M.S. Genetic Counseling, ABGC Board eligible or Board certified, California GC license
Minimum Experience: Two-years of experience in genetic counseling preferred, but not required.
