Cancer Genetic Counselor

The Department of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is seeking outstanding applicants to fill a Medical Oncology Genetic Counselor position at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position is a unique opportunity to work in the academic setting with an experienced and motivated team. This position was created to help the team cover satellite locations in the San Gabriel Valley Region. The genetic counselor will work in collaboration with a growing team of other genetic counselors, physicians, and researchers at the University of Southern California and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. The genetic counseling responsibilities of this position include the full spectrum of clinical cancer genetic counseling activities including collecting family history, formulating the differential diagnosis, educating patients about genetics and the implications of genetic testing, coordinating genetic testing, interpreting genetic test results and cancer risk assessment. The genetic counselor is expected to communicate genetic test results to patients and providers, coordinate cascade testing when needed and help take care of patients and their families with hereditary cancer. As an integral part of the research team, the genetic counselor will formulate and support research activities related to the fields of genetic counseling, cancer genetics and genomics and precision oncology. The genetic counselor will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of research including project formulation, grant submission, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. The genetic counselor will have the opportunity to submit journal publications and present data at national meetings. Come become an important member of the Trojan family. Minimum Education: M.S. Genetic Counseling, Board eligible or Board certified, or M.S.N. in Nursing, Board eligible or certified Minimum Experience/Knowledge: 1 year of experience in genetic counseling; new graduates are welcome to apply. Required License/Certification: Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. Minimum Education: Master's degree Minimum Experience: 2 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Master’s Degree in genetic counseling. Must have American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification or Active Candidate for Certification status. Must have a California State Genetic Counselor License. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the field of cancer genetic counseling. Clinical genetic counseling experience in a cancer genetic counseling clinic.
