Job Opening Rady Children's Hospital San Diego

Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego has an immediate opening for a full-time pediatric clinical genetic counselor in the department of Genetics and Dysmorphology. This position will support Clinical Genetics and Biochemical Genetics by providing genetic counseling both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams. As a member of the Biochemical team, the genetic counselor will work with the MDs, social workers, RNs, and dieticians to provide coordination and education around the role of genetics in inborn errors of metabolism. This includes coordinating and triaging new referrals through the California Newborn Screening program. In Clinical Genetics, will independently counsel patients and families with a wide range of genetic conditions. There are additional opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary clinics in other specialty areas. As a training site, genetic counselors provide supervision to Masters-level genetic counseling students during their pediatric rotations and have the opportunity to be involved in student research and other supportive graduate activities.

You will join a team of two genetic counselors, four geneticists/dysmorphologists and two Biochemical geneticists.

Minimum qualifications:

Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics

California Licensure as a Genetic Counselor (or eligible for provisional licensure if new to state)

Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling

Strong understanding of genetic disorders in the pediatric population, genetic testing and counseling

Intellectual curiosity, compassion and client-centered approach

Ability to evaluate scientific literature thoroughly and accurately

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team

Preferred qualifications:

Bilingual Spanish/English
