Join us for a free virtual workshop using the BATHE method for psychosocial genetic counseling (approved for CEUs)

ree

Dear Genetic Counselor colleagues,

Are you interested in learning a fast and simple counseling technique?

The BATHE method (Lieberman and Stuart 1999) was originally designed for primary care providers to build rapport with patients and accurately elicit their concerns during short, 15 minute visits. It has been shown to decrease patient anxiety and increase patient empowerment in other healthcare settings. The method involves asking a set of four questions that are easy to incorporate into genetic counseling practice.

We are hosting several two-hour virtual workshops where we will share our adaptation of the BATHE method, and participants will practice applying the technique alongside experts and fellow learners. We have given similar workshops at the 2020 NSGC Annual Conference, to Be the Match, and to the University of British Columbia, with high participant satisfaction.

Our team is conducting an NIH-funded study on the BATHE method in genetic counseling via these virtual workshops, a series of surveys, and interviews of eligible participants. Our study has also been approved by the Stanford IRB.

If you are interested in learning more about these workshops or the study, click HERE to sign up for more information about upcoming workshop dates and times. This is not consent to participate in the study. A link to that will be sent out closer to the workshop dates. You are eligible to enroll for this research study if you are a genetic counselor practicing in English in the United States.

All individuals who attend this workshop will be eligible to receive CEUs (approved for Category 1 CEUs), regardless of their participation in the study. The study is covering the CEU filing fee ($25) for all participants who attend the workshop and complete all surveys. Each survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Individuals who complete all three surveys will be automatically entered into a raffle for one of twenty $50 gift cards.*

We hope to see you there!
