An important update regarding Medi-Cal’s enrollment requirements
Dear Providers:
The California Department of Public Health’s Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) is requesting your assistance in sharing an important update regarding Medi- Cal’s enrollment requirements for Ordering, Referring, and Prescribing (ORP) providers.
Medi-Cal now requires all ORP providers to be enrolled as participating Medi-Cal providers and to hold an active Type 1 (Individual) National Provider Identifier (NPI), even if they don’t bill Medi-Cal for services they provide themselves.
We ask that you distribute and prominently post this information within your organizations, facilities, and programs to ensure that all providers impacted by this requirement are made aware. In addition to Medi-Cal enrollment, we also want to remind partners that all health care professionals providing care for California Children’s Services (CCS) members must be CCS‑paneled, and all physicians and non‑physician medical providers ordering, prescribing, or providing care in CCS‑approved Special Care Centers are required to be CCS‑paneled.
