New year, new speakers and new presentations for our SCGC community! Please join us for our February webinar, where Nydia Santiago Neal will discuss: "Cancer Surveillance for Transgender and Gender Diverse Patients with Lynch Syndrome Recommendations From CGA-IGC.

Speaker Bio: 

Nydia Santiago Neal, is a board certified and licensed genetic counselor who graduated from the California State University, Northridge genetic counseling program in 2009. She began her career at Ambry genetics, developing panel testing. Later joining the UCSD fetal care and genetic clinic in 2011, primarily working in a prenatal setting, as well as conducting hereditary cancer risk assessment. During a forced 3-year sabbatical courtesy of the Navy, she taught human genetic and biology courses to service members while stationed on a Naval base in Sicily, also taking time to explore Europe with her family. Upon returning to the US in 2017, she joined Myriad Genetics, as part of their patient education team, she helps patients understand their genetic testing results. Outside of work, she participated in the NSGC task force that helped develop the NSGC JEDI Action plan, served as the SCGC DEI chair from 2021 to 2023, during which time she helped develop the SCGC webinar series as it is important to provide accessible CEU options to SCGC members. She is the current Education co-chair along with Kathryn Reyes. She has also provided mentorship to various prospective and current genetic counseling students, and participates in community outreach projects. DEI initiatives are important to her, as she has made it a career goal to expand genetic counseling services to underserved communities, especially among the Spanish speaking community, and increase diversity in the field.

Attendees will need to register for each event individually. 

The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has authorized Southern California Genetic Counselors (SCGC) to offer up to 0.9 CEUs or 9 Category 1 contact hours for the total activity SCGC Webinar Series 2024. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) will accept CEUs earned at this program for the purposes of genetic counselor certification and recertification. To be eligible for CEUs, attendees must be members of SCGC, attend the webinar live, complete the evaluation within 2 weeks of the webinar, and pay the CEU registration fee at the end of the series.
