RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY : ANALYSIS OF THE FINANCIAL TOOLS GENETIC COUNSELING STUDENTS USE TO FUND THEIR TRAINING

Genetic Counseling training is expensive!!! Did you struggle to pay for training? Share your experience and help the next cohorts of genetic counselors! Lead Researcher Itzel Mancilla-Murillo and researchers from the Division of Genetics and Genomics at the University of California, Irvine are recruiting participants for a research study about the financial tools genetic counseling students use to fund various aspects of their 2 years of training. Obtaining information on the financial tools genetic counseling students from ALL backgrounds utilize will provide valuable insight regarding the financial cost of genetic counseling training and promote greater justice, equity, and diversity in genetic counseling.

 

You are eligible to participate in this study if you are a United States citizen, graduated as part of the classes of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 or expect to graduate in 2025 or 2026 from an ACGC-accredited genetic counseling graduate program.

What is the survey about?

We are conducting a survey on the support staff who assist with duties that are specific to genetics, such as coordinating ordering of genetic tests or collecting family histories. These support staff use many different titles and can help any type of professional such as nurses, PAs, physicians, and genetic counselors.

 

We are seeking to better understand the roles these support staff fill and the future demand for them. By completing this survey, you will help contribute to the growing knowledge base on the genetic workforce.

Student Research Survey: PAD and GCs

If you are a US-based genetic counselor, please consider participating in a study about physician aid-in-dying (PAD)! The goal of this survey is to assess genetic counselors’ opinions about PAD, their experiences with it in their clinical practice, and what training they have received or wish to receive about PAD. You do not need any prior experience with PAD to participate in this study!
